HTTPS started making a name for itself in web development way back in the 90s. Although it wasn’t initially given much credit, its purpose within the cyber world has since shifted and grown in prominence, with many seeing it as vital to our current online security.

It all began when HTTP was released by the World Wide Web consortium (W3C) back in '91, ushering in a new era of simple home browsing. Cipher suites soon followed—introducing encrypted keys to authenticate data origins; and then came SSL, which laid down some serious rules for authentication and encryption protocols—forever sealing HTTPS into legend.

But after 1999 when multifactor authentication requirements were announced, this is when things got crazy: had we known what was about to happen we would've collectively said "whoa nelly!"
